Six Weeks Ahead of Election Day, Arizona Volunteers Show Record Enthusiasm for Democrats
More than 2,000 volunteers spent their weekend making hundreds of thousands of phone calls across Arizona to register voters and encourage them to cast their ballots for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Mark Kelly. This was the campaign’s largest weekend for volunteer engagement so far — more than 3,000 new volunteers were recruited to take action with the campaign.
Mission for Arizona’s “Weekend of Action” launched with a virtual visit from Jill Biden, who started off her comments with a reflection on the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
“You can see just how one person can make such a difference in people’s lives. She lived an illustrious and fearless life as a champion of justice and women’s equality,” Jill Biden said.
Ginsburg’s passing moved people in Arizona and across the country to take action in support of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as well as key Senate races. The immediate hours and days after her death brought about record-breaking fundraising for Democrats and a rallying of volunteers nationwide.
“I talked to a lot of people during our phone bank shifts who have never really been involved in politics or elections, or who have been registered Republicans, but they wanted to know what they can do to help Joe Biden win. People understand what’s at stake and they don’t want to sit this one out — they want to do something to help,” said Sean McEnerney, Mission for Arizona’s Organizing Director.
Arizonans will have more opportunities to volunteer throughout the week, including one special phone bank tomorrow, September 22 that will include a guest appearance from former University of Arizona basketball player and current Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr. Media interested in attending the event should RSVP HERE by 2 PM AZ.
The deadline to register to vote in Arizona is October 5, and the last day to request a mail-in ballot is October 23. Early voting begins in the state October 7.
