Former Republican Congressman Jim Kolbe Tells Arizona Daily Star: Biden “Easily Gets My Vote”
Kolbe Points to Trump’s Fiscal Irresponsibility, Attacks on Veterans
In a new op-ed published today in the Arizona Daily Star, former Republican Congressman Jim Kolbe laid out why, as a lifelong conservative, he will be voting for Joe Biden in the fall.
“I served with Joe Biden in Congress and while we didn’t agree on many different proposals, I know him to be an honorable and decent person with great personal integrity. He has demonstrated the ability to work with the other side of the aisle and to actually listen to other people to get things done,” Kolbe said.
Kolbe also highlighted the ways Donald Trump has betrayed and insulted the American people throughout his four-year term, from his fiscal irresponsibility in running up the national debt $6.6 trillion, to his longtime attacks on Senator John McCain’s heroic service and recent revelations that he called America’s fallen and wounded soldiers “losers” and “suckers.”
“Trump is the opposite of a conservative. He has no respect for American traditions or respect for its institutions. His voters would only be fooling themselves a second time if they imagine he is in this game for anything other than his own interests and ego satisfaction,” Kolbe added.
Kolbe represented southern Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1984 to 2006. He is one of the Arizona Republican leaders, along with former Senator Jeff Flake, who last month launched Arizona Republicans for Biden in a historic abandonment of support for the party’s incumbent.
The deadline to register to vote in Arizona is October 5, and the last day to request a mail-in ballot is October 23. Early voting begins in the state October 7. Make a safe and secure plan to vote by visiting IWillVote.com or VoyAvotar.com.
