Biden for President Arizona’s Team Leading Historic Fight to Win the Grand Canyon State
Arizona State Director Profiled Among Top Latina Leaders
Biden for President understands that the path to victory in Arizona runs through the Latino community, and State Director Jessica Mejía has put those outreach efforts front and center. Mejía was recently profiled by PopSugar as one of the campaign’s top Latinx women in the leading the fight to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
“This election is very important to me as a Latina and as a person of color. Our community has suffered under this administration, and I believe [former] Vice President Biden and Senator Kamala Harris will fight for our community from day one,” Mejía said.
“By becoming involved, registering to vote, and voting this November we can determine who is elected as the next president of the United States. In order to create change, elect leaders that will have our community’s best interests ahead of the wealthy and corporations, and champion issues that are important to our community, we need to get involved and have our voices heard at every level.”
Other senior members of the Biden for President Arizona team are driving the campaign’s work across the state and in the Latino community. Political Director Cynthia Aragon is on leave from her position as Chief of Staff to the Arizona House Democrats. Cymone Bolding, who is well-known for her work as Co-Executive Director at Arizona Coalition for Change, serves as the campaign’s Coalitions Director. Larry Sandígo, most recently on Rep. Greg Stanton’s team and formerly at the Florence Project, serves as Latino Vote Director. Fernando Quiroz, a leader in the farm worker labor movement, is the campaign’s Deputy Political Director.
Under Mejía’s leadership, the campaign has invested significant time and resources in the state to build meaningful relationships in the Latino community and a targeted, strategic outreach plan. During a press briefing she led in Spanish, Mejía told local Latino news outlets recently that the campaign conducts daily phone banks in Spanish and now operates a bilingual virtual campaign office. More than 500 regular volunteers are phone banking entirely in Spanish. The campaign’s Arizona Latino Leadership Council, which includes more than 40 state and local leaders, holds virtual weekly meetings with senior campaign staff.
